The Duke City Youth Poetry Collective, in partnership with the Nat. Hispanic Cultural Center and Warehouse 508, presents its monthly Writing Intensive with HBO Def Poet and Chicago slam champ TIM STAFFORD.
Tim, who is also host the 2010 ABQ Grand Slam on April 3 at the Outpost Performance Space, will be leading a writing workshop – “Personalizing the Political: How to write political poetry that isn't a rant, and how to make it funny.” -- for youth and adults Saturday, April 3 at Warehouse 508, the new youth arts space in Downtown Albuquerque.
Tim Stafford is the only poet to simultaneously hold the titles of Chicago Grand Slam champion and Worlds Greatest Uncle. He is the slam master of the Mental Graffiti poetry slam and a public school teacher on the South Side of Chicago. He has performed his work all over the world including a number of National Poetry Slams and the ABC Brecht Festival in Augsburg, Germany. Tim is also one half of the duo "Death From Below" whose work has appeared on HBO's Def Poetry Jam and Borders Open Door Poetry. He is also the editor of "Learn Then Burn" an all ages anthology set to be released in May 2010 by Write Bloody Publishing.
The first 15 youth writers to RSVP (reserve a spot) for the workshop get in for free. Adults and additional youth will be asked to pay $10 (we will go on a sliding scale for those who can't afford the $10.)
This is a workshop you CANNOT miss!
