Hank Schroy is a Brazilian-born musician, composer, and producer. As a bassist, he has performed and recorded with the legendary Salif Keita of Mali, Roswell Rudd, Toumani Diabate, Vernon Reid, and others. In 2004 Hank performed in the Sahara Desert, at the otherworldly site of the Festival in the Desert in Essakane, Mali. After immersing himself in the Afro-Brazilian culture of Bahia, Brasil, he co-produced a critically praised CD called "Orixás", which showcased a forward-looking vision of what might arise if the traditions of Candomblé were respected and yet fused with avant-jazz and mantra-music. He continues to seek out connections between the world musics he has encountered in his travels and the roots music of Brazil, composing, performing, and developing new projects.
