While I'm being featured...

I though I might tell you about what I do.

First and foremost - I am a family man. I am married to an amazing woman. We have two daughters and a third on the way in August. My girls are the only thing in this world that really matter.

After that - I am an artist and a professional creative. I'm 34 years old. I am a classically trained sculptor with a B.F.A. from U.N.T. I am a trained animator, illustrator, and painter. I can draw. I am a writer and a…

Creativity and 'unemployment'

If more of this country were engaged in creativity, we might not have the unemployment problems we have now. At some point we stopped 'creating' new things. We replaced that with the 'replication' of cheap things - and we guaranteed our current lot.The reason most people hate their jobs is that are never given real challenges. If all you need to do to make your paycheck is read-repeat-read-repeat....it's hard to find satisfaction. But - we have…

How I ended up here...

"Due to budget cuts, your position is being eliminated as of tomorrow." Thus I ended my latest 'career' as the developemnt director for a large public radio station. Two weeks severance pay, a letter of recommendation from the director, an apology from the board, and a handshake later...I rejoined the ranks of the unemployed.…

Creative people make life interesting.

Creative people make life interesting.

They do. For all of us.

But from a more selfish position - they make life interesting for me.

I've been traveling a bit lately and meeting artists around the region. It's been a real pleasure. Quality conversations with people who take their pursuit of art very seriously are a commodity of underestimated value. People have been very willing to share their pain, their joy, their suffering and their successes when it comes… Continue

Thinking about creativity and higher education...

Thinking about creativity and higher education...

Creativity has been on my mind these last few days (or decades - but who's counting). I'm particularly engaged right now in the application of creativity to art making and how it exists in the current academic culture. Much of my internal debate has to do with the differences between academic art making and what's commonly called 'outsider art'. Basically, you either have a college degree in art making, or you’re an outsider. That's… Continue

electricLuLuland : BIO/HYPE

bio/hype

electricLuLuland

There is an elemental immediacy, a visceral intensity invoked and conjured in the explicitly wrought lyrics that are the hallmark of LuLu's "powerful original songs."  (Washington Post)

Her subject matter is drawn from the observations of a lifetime crossing continents. LuLu's…

Mr. T

You eyes

Have captured my soul

The memory of each glance

Puts me in a trance

And in my mind

I dive

Into you aqua eyes

Touched by your…

One in the Same 1/18/2009

One in the Same

My heart is set free

No longer bound to

An unrequited love

You cannot

choose whom you love

You cannot

choose who loves you

You can…

Kitten Kisses

Kitten Kisses

with lips so moist and soft
your kisses taste
like ice cold milk

I am the kitten
who dips her tongue in
to hungrily savor
the flavor of your mouth

Enjoying Myself

Enjoying Myself

walking around, feeling the grass
tickle between my toes
looking around this peaceful place
where the flowers blossom, grow

rolling around on the ground
smiling with glee
enjoying the sun
I'm the only one
just the sun, and the grass,
and me

Half Breed (2006)

Half-Breed

A half-breed is what I am

Its a term that I use loosely

Proud to be described as such

The product of my parents who are

Of opposite backgrounds

I have been exposed to the best,

And worst, of both their worlds

I use this exposure to my advantage

My knowledge allows me to adapt

The Mandells taught me manners

With little white gloves

And a matching hat

Salad fork and dinner fork

Napkin on my lap

Eating shrimp and…
