Legislators need to hear not only from us but from the vendors we use
in the community that the film business is valuable to them. We need to
emphasize not only the good we have done for the State but the good we
plan to do in the future especially for our high school and college
graduates. Having your local politicians contact the legislators really
helps. Down south while you need to talk to everyone may I strongly
suggest you put an emphasis on Senator Fishman – a democrat who needs
better information than he currently has. In ABQ in addition to talking
to your legislators may I suggest you talk to ABQ city government,
especially John Garcia, Dave Campbell, and Mayor Berry – they need to
know how much the city would be hurt without the movie business. When
you talk to democrats I would emphasis that the so called studies
(which were just really a critique of the E & Y in depth study
here) came from a radically right wing think tank that has some pretty
peculiar and out of the main stream views on tax policy.
brief when making your calls or sending emails or faxes as many of
these are simply being tallied by staffers who have many other tasks
and long discourses will not endear them to our cause. Also be polite
and don’t threaten to work against their re-election.
If you need to find out who your Representatives or Senators are you can do so by going to the NM Legislature website (http://legis.state.nm.us
) they have an excellent search function.
