I arrived a little late, I had to take my underage spooks to their haunting grounds before arriving at Studio Broadway, but the music was good and I love good music.

Del Puckett was playing as we entered and as always carried himself and his music to a place of greatness.
Some bluesy, some rock-y, some folks-y, played Del -all he did well and he had a few stories to tell. As his third gig of the day he still gave us his best and it was appreciated. Great job Del!! You're awesome! I'm, guessing he was dressed up as a cowboy, though it was a little like the usual I've seen him as before so I'm thinking he was dressed up as himself. Pretty ingenious costume if you really think about it. He didn't need a mask and it's hard to sing through a mask.

Jenn Grinels was next up and man can that girl sing. Holy smokes the pipes on this girl. I've got her last album and play it on a semi regular basis. It's got an edgy 'the thing I hate about this and that' feel to it with some softer 'wish it could've' parts. So I was expecting some of the same. But I'll be damned. Mis Flo just done up a bumped it a notch or two! Wow wow wow. Never a wrong note, soulfully soft, heartfelt, passionately louder, gritty when it was needed then whispered, gifted. She shows that she can play with sound the way a child plays with play-doh but with the skill of a master sculptor. And then she throws in the wedding song and her very own remix of No Woman Don't Cry. It is then that you realize the truth. She loves what she does and you can see the world change just a little bit for that moment that she is communing with it. Then she hops around on the swivel chair in her Flo the Progressive girl costume and says something ever so Flo-ish and you're back in the room again. Hmmmm Jenn, I think you just might be headed somewhere girl.

OOoooooo and the finale, the big Kahuna, or the Royal Palace Player himself, Rodney Branigan! I can never tire of hearing him. He defies gravity, space and time. His guitar playing is undefinable you just have to see it. I've been a follower of Rodney since 2003. It's been a journey in my life as each of his dates here in Albuquerque seemed to punctuate a marker moment and his music has been a constant blissful place to return. I was spared this time from She Bled, the song that heals and hurts every time I hear it. No plagerism song which is always a favorite but there were several of his new songs. Yes the mighty Branigan strikes greatness again! Playing in palaces seems to inspire new and wonderful ways to make a guitar sing like the gods. Really light footed fast moving gods. The passion that comes through as his fingers fly across the guitar so fast that there is no way to discover how he is making the drumming, the melody, the rhythm all at the same time that it just looks like he's keeping it in the air by hitting it from the bottom. The same passion is in his voice as he sings the words to songs that are deep and meaningful or playful and ridiculous. His covers make you think the original isn't that good anymore. Sorry Radiohead, Beatles. It is too little we see of you these days Mr Branigan, too little.

Studio Broadway was a pretty awesome space! Bettie Page Girls and zombies on display in the foyer. A large space that has painting, photography, ceramic, glass blowing, screen printing and 3-D artists. The Studio was wonderful and I HIGHLY recommend going and checking it out!!! They're members here on the 66 and they have their own site at http://glassartnewmexico.ning.com/ as well. They have lessons, art for sale, and exhibits! Check them out!!

That's all for the Butterfly for now.....until later gator

Wish we had been able to provide a little better seating and such, but it was the first effort down there. THANK YOU for attending and we hope you will keep coming back. Oh yeah, and the heat should be on soon as well...
